In order to allow for construction of the historic Downtown Crossing project, Exit 3 of Route 34 has permanently closed as Thursday, May 2, 2013. The New Haven Downtown Crossing Project will remove the Rt. 34 highway, reconnect City streets, and provide the City of New Haven with approximately 11 acres of developable land.

The City of New Haven wants the public to be aware that this closure will cause detours and delays. Residents and commuters are urged to sign up to receive weekly traffic alerts that will keep them informed about traffic changes.
